Message from Club Chairperson – Seamus Lane

As we draw to a close on the 2025 season, I want to take this opportunity to look back on 2025 and look forward to 2026.

We started out the year with the success of our club draw which along with our grant funding paves a path for the lights and ball wall development in 2026.

To all our sponsors across the teams, fundraiser's and lotto, we are indebted to you and your support is invaluable.

The club continues to be prevalent in our representation with Limerick GAA, Camogie & School's teams with players and coaches alike. We are very proud of you all representing the green & gold!

The player base continues to grow with 40 new additions at Nursery level and the addition of our social camogie team going from strength to strength in its 1st year.

The various club committee's deserve great credit for running the club for the year, fundraising, lotto, looking after the facilities and accommodating large attendance's on match days.

The committee wish to thank all our players who wore the green & gold in 2025 and we look forward to seeing you all back on the pitch in 2026.

We thank all the managers and coaches who mentored and led each team during the 2025 season and hope that 2026 will be another step forward for you all.

On behalf of the committee, we wish you all a Happy and safe Christmas & New Year.

128 years ago, the 1897 All Ireland Hurling Final was won by Kilfinane (Limerick) although the final wasn’t played until 20 November 1898.

In the Limerick County Final, Kilfinane defeated Cappamore on a scoreline of 4:09 – 4:08. Cappamore objected to the result but lost the objection. A report of the objection follows:

As Kilfinane were county champions, the GAA rules of the day allowed the county champions to select players from the rest of the county to make-up a “County” team.
Four men from Cappamore were selected for the “County” namely:
- John Condon
- John Hynes
- Patrick Butler
- Pat Mulcahy

As Kilfinane went through Munster, they defeated Tulla (Clare) and Blackrock (Cork) and then went onto meet and defeat Tullaroan (Kilkenny) in the All Ireland Final of 1897 although played in 1898!
